Hi Marie, I moved your post from the walkthrough thread and created a new one for you, where more folks are likely to read it. Let's wait for advice from those who've already played the game.

I don't remember having any trouble getting to the top of the ladder, so I don't have any helpful suggestions, unfortuantely. Just checking -- have you pulled the lever that raises the elevator with the crate on it to the second floor? Maybe go back and see if you need to have more conversation with the other two characters, or try knocking on the door?

@Becky, Good suggestions, but I had unfortunately tried all of them already. Thanks for responding so quickly though!
@MaG, I had no problem in the library, the problem occurs in Luz when we (with the postman) drop the crate off at the proffessor's, and he wants us to put it on the roof.
The Good News Is - I got to looking closely, and noticed the curved parts at the top of the second ladder were just a little bit (a few pixels, max) taller than the first, and the way he jumped off the ladder was identical to what happens when you let up on the "up" key a bit too soon, so I got to thinking maybe it's a rounding type math error in the program. As soon as I tried a different resolution, Presto! it's like any other ladder. Fullscreen or windowed, it worked fine. Switching back to a 16:9 resolution of any size and the problem reappears. At an 8:5, or 5:4 or 4:3 it's fine. So I'll play at 1680x1050 instead of the native 1920x1080. The framerate is a little better anyway...
My video card is a Leadtek (sp?) 7600GT with 256meg-o-ram, and I'm running 2 monitors with it, a 1920x1080 digitally, and a 1680x1050 in analog.
Gotta box to move now. Thanks for the assistance!
