I thought I'd replay this game and I have both the CD version and also DVD. However I popped the DVD in and almost immediately got a message saying that this game requires Win. 95 or later - I use XP on the desktop and could have sworn I'd originally played it on XP - maybe I'm mistaken and perhaps had played it on the old Win 98 machine.

Is there any solution to playing it on XP does anyone know? Thanks (hopefully) in advance.

Jo.

Never mind, I'd forgotten about Compatibility mode. So anyway it installed O.K. but graphics aren't showing up properly, maybe I need to change the screen size or something.

Also now I've installed it, I'm not even sure that I want to play it! Go figure!! wink

The DVD version of Overseer was hit and miss for most folks. None the less it can be played under XP with only minor issues.

Metzo has a fairly good write up on it below -

Thanks Inland, unfortunately although the sound is perfect, the graphics, I think the conversation trees or something similar, just don't show up, just little lines everywhere. Maybe I should uninstall it and install the CD version instead but whether it's worth it or not.......

Really I was just feeling like playing one of the older games for a change and Overseer is the only Tex Murphy game that I'd never replayed.

IIRC it is only the installer itself that needs to be run in compatability mode the game itself doesnt (Ive just played it myself on Win 7). If you use the cd version then there are instructions on the Unofficial Tex Murphy site that shows how to install the whole game to harddisk so no cd swapping. If you want the link give me a shout and I'll see if I can find it.

Make sure you get the 1.04 patch installed, as well as DVD Express - it corrects most of the graphic glitches.

I agree with InlandAZ that this game is a hit and miss with a lot of people, I bought the GOG version and it seemed to work the best although I still had a few technical problems were I had to save the game, quit and restart but I was able to play the game through on a Win7 32 bit Laptop.

mj2c, thanks for that, I'll have a hunt for it over the weekend and try reinstalling the game.

Inland, I did actually install the patch and also DVD express (which I'm pretty sure I had once before but lost!) but unfortunately it still didn't work. Thanks for trying anyway.

Jo.

After you install the patch you have to change the MPEG II options to Mediamatics.
