purchased and d-loaded (using GOGs downloader)Myst 5 the other day. It seemed the d-load (supposedly 3.6 GIG) was taking up an inordinate amount of time, even at high-speed....sevral hours.
I was cognisant of HD space available prior to d-loading as I'm slowly running out of space. Anyway, prior to d-loading/installing I had 30 something GIG of Hd space. When the d-load/install was finished I noticed that ELEVEN GIG was used up. I d-loaded/installed NOTHING else in the day before or since the Myst 5 from GOG. Norton told me that Myst 5 was the ONLY thing d-loaded or installed. How,then did a suppopsed 3.6GIG d-load take up ELEVEN GIG of space on my PC? Game runs fine and all that....but what gives? did something nefarious become installed on my system along with the game? I'm waiting to hear back from GOG on this one. I am positive of the amount prior and following install.

I think when you download and install a game,it can triple in size, the amount of space you need.
I downloaded a game that was 1.5 gigs and it ended up taking almost 5 gigs of space.

Still wondering how in heck this happened. Game runs fine,Norton says my PC is virus free,so if something other than the game was installed that would screw w/ my system,it hasnt showed up yet. What is absolutely definite is that eleven gigs was used up simply by downloading and installing the game w/ the GOG downloader. I've used the GOG d-loader several times through several purchases, with nothing like this happening. Usually,if the game (say,Syberia) was supposed to be 2.3 GIG that's about how much space it took up.
So...puzzled expression here!

Was the original download a Zipped file? Have you right clicked on the downloaded file and selected properties to look at the size of the file? Many installations - including games - also make temporary files in your App Data/Roaming or App Data/Local files (which you can only access if you enable "view hidden folders and files."

Since I'm using a 60 GB SSD as my boot drive, I've had to be very cognizant of these files getting installed on that drive in the App Data folder even though I'm installing the games on the D:/ or data drive.

Draclvr,

The game files aren't zipped when you use the GOG downloader, they come in chunks (I calls 'em) that you can clearly see if you go to the file location as they're coming in. Things like manuals and artwork are zipped.

Yup, you're right, Gil. It is the manuals etc. that are zipped. I've finally gotten the "new and improved" downloader, but haven't used it yet.
