I just bought the PC version of this game. Other than a couple of reviews which were not overly informative, I could find little about this game.
So, three questions: One, how "actiony" is it? Second, is it possible to reformat the keyboard controls to the Mouse? And finally, how do you control the action elements, such as driving or shooting or fighting? The reviews gave no information as to any of this, and I could not locate a walk-thru, which might have had this info in its introduction.
Thanx in advance for anything anyone might know.

Hi Antoinetta, to GameBoomers. You're correct in that the game is a hybrid of action and adventure -- to date GB has classified it as being more on the "action" side, so I'll move this thread across to our Darkside forum where other members who have played the game will be able to advise you.

Hi ya Antoinetta I found a a List of PC controls Here. That page also says most functions can be bound to either keyboard or mouse, but it does not say how. Is there a menu labeled Options or Controls or Keybindings or Gameplay? I don't have this game so I don't know exactly where or how to change the controls. Hopefully, someone who has played the game will be able to answer your "actiony" question, though that, of course, is very subjective.

I too was interested in this game when it was first introduced @49.95, but now that the game can be purchased for $10.20 I have to wonder WHY and WHAT happened.

I was tempted to get this game a few times too, even with the "action" aspects. But if you look, the good reviews are for the console versions. The PC version has very poor reviews (talking about on Amazon here). Most of the 1-star reviews are saying they can't even get the game to run. That's really too bad, because it does sound like a great story.
Has anyone gotten this game running on Win 7? How 'bout you, Antoinetta?
PS: Maybe Steam's PC version works better than Amazon's?

Well fellow Boomers. I bought a new DVD of L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition and have never been able to play it. The mandatory patch will not install. I have tried several suggestion I have found on line and nothing works. My computer meets the game specs, so I am lost. I am just glad I only paid $10.00 for this worthless game. I hope you guys have better luck with the download version.

I run this game on a win 7 64 bit, from steam with no problems at all.
Driving in this game is a hoot.
I like this game, some of the story can be a bit cheesy at times. Just my thinking though. Oh, now I'm sooo tempted! There are 20 more hours left for the sale at Steam. I've read that the game is kind of campy--a whole tribute to 1940s crime stories--but also pretty serious, with a lot of vile characters. Question for those who've played: Is it REALLY violent? I watched my youngest son play Red Dead Redemption (another Rockstar game). I was amazed at the great, realistic storyline. What I liked was the different setting: the Old West. But it definitely was explicit in places. Although, since I play RPGs, I'm used to a certain amount of this. Just checked on Amazon again: They have two downloadable versions for the Complete LA Noire: Amazon's DL and Steam's DRM version (which is "currently unavailable"). The Steam's version has good reviews while the Amazon one's are poor. So, I'd say, if you want to try LA Noire, buy from Steam.

Yesterday afternoon, I bought L.A. Noire Complete from Steam. It's over 13 GB to download. I have DSL, but it's slow--the best they can offer me at my location. I still have less than 4 GB downloaded, and it's been going all night! It will be a couple of days, I guess, before I can get the game installed. This is the BIG disadvantage of downloaded games for me.
When I have it installed, I'll report how well it runs ... or if it doesn't. <crossing fingers>

I never had any problems with the DVD version of the Complete Edition running on my PC. Essentially you start as a patrol officer and then you change desks (e.g from patrol to homicide to traffic etc) and you need to find clues in each scene. The tricky part is when you interrogate suspects you need to successfully guess whether they are lying, telling the truth or you have a doubt on what they are saying based on their facial expressions, eye contact and so on. If you guess their answers wrong it could mean a suspect released and you failing. Here are a couple of walkthroughs I found, one has videos included as well: http://www.ign.com/wikis/la-noire/Walkthroughhttp://wikigameguides.com/LA_Noire/wiki/Story_Cases_Walkthrough-12835

Thanks Butcher, what OS are you using? I finished the game a month ago more or less on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Thanks for the walkthrough links, Butcher!
I got my game installed and started. All seems good so far, but I haven't played yet. I wanted to come back and report to you guys about some of the options.
First of all, once the download finished, the initial setup was quick. It did want a small update to their "Social Club," which I guess gives perks, achievements, and a chance to share and get hints in game. I signed up.
Here are some of the options that I like:
-Subtitles -Customizable Keyboard/Mouse controls or Game Controller -Black and White graphics--Off or On -Camera Automation and Shake--Off or On -ACTION SKIP--Off or On: if you fail too many times, the action/shooting type sequences can be skipped. -CLUE HINTS--Off, On (tinkling sound when a clue is nearby), or Visual (magnifying glass appears when a clue is nearby) -AIM ASSIST--Off, Low, or High
Those last three could prove very helpful!

Thanks Lan, I love the Skip Action option. I can often do the action stuff, but it's nice to know you don't have to. Antoinetta, a list of all the keys can be offputting sometimes, but I've found that often it's not as overwhelming as it seems once you are actually playing.
