Hello to all my Boomer Friends,

One of the very cool things about Gameboomers is that all sorts of people from around the world participate

Next year (2014) My Lovely Wife Opal and I will go to London/Paris for ten days ( staying at the Odessa Wharf) Then do a cruise from Harwich England for 12 days visiting Copenhagen, Helsinki, St. Petersberg Russia etc.
I would really appreciate any advice or suggestionsfrom anyone who lives there, or has been there.
Thanks

Thanks Anna. My main goal in life is to have a zero bank account and maxed out credit cards on the day I die.

I love San Diego. I lived there from 1971 to 1978. San Diego is the ONLY place In Calif I would go back to. Used to hang out at Blacks Beach, and OB. Eat at Anthonys, at the Embarcadero. Tell me you are a Charger fan!

I've done that cruise, Gordon, but it was back before Glasnost and it went to Leningrad (St. Petersburg). I spent 3 weeks in GB, Did a tour of Scotland and used a Britrail Pass for England, on another trip. Feel free to ask, and if I know the answer, I'd be glad to help.

I don't live in Copenhagen, but I do live in Denmark. If you're looking for good traditionel Danish food, then try Ida Davidsen's food store. And be sure to visit a place on Amager, the island just outside Copenhagen, called Bryggen. It is a whole new part of the city. If you'd like you can go on harbour tour on a boat to learn something about the history of Copenhagen.

If you're going to Bryggen, try catching the Københavns Havnebad (The harbour bath of Copenhagen). Be sure to visit of the many many bookshops and bookkeepers in Copenhagen. Downtown Copenhagen there's a bookstore that has a really nice ambience, it is kept in the old style.

You can also visit and enjoy a good cake and some nice coffee at Lagkagehuset and maybe buy some good tea at Perch's teashop.

Copenhagen has a nice Metro and subway-system (although the subways called S-trains are above the ground).

I've tried not to direct you too much towards the traditionel tourists attraction, but more to places where you can get a taste! of the food, the people, the places and the city.

Will you be staying in Copenhagen for more than one day, because this really also has an influence on what you're going to have time to see and which places you'll be able to visit.

Of course I'm a Charger's Fan! Win or lose I root for the home team. Black's Beach! Did ya go au natural or keep your clothes on? We went there a few times and oh the things we saw. shocked

San Diego is my all time favorite place to live. Near everything, 1/2 hour to Vegas by plane, beach, mountains, fun stuff to do all the time, and the weather is nearly perfect.

Funny, you moved out just as I was moving back. I got back here (after 9 years away) in July of 1978. Probably passed you on the freeway. wave

Yes I did go au natural. I was a LOT younger then, and make the climb up and down the cliff without too much trouble. This was before someone built the stairs. I was back visiting friends in 1979, and was sitting at 30th and University when that P.S.A. went down.
Worked at the liquor store at the "Town and Country Hotel in Hotel Circle before I left to go to Crypress Collegem

Wow, we really did pass each other around town! I was at the Town and County many times for various 'events'.

Yeah, the stairs to Black's Beach were brand new when I attempted the climb. I made it OK, but some poor man (well overweight) collapsed half way up and we all rushed to aid him. I was an EMT for a few years and had to assist. Paramedics got there soon after.

Oh and that plane crash, so awful. My neighbor and I watched it on TV after we heard something like a sonic boom. I live about 10 minutes South of there. We were just complaining about 'nothing happening, bored bored, etc.) and then it happened. No more complaining for me.

Hope that awesome vacation of yours is loads of fun. Farthest I got from here is Fiji and that was a scary trip.

One more thing then we will get off the subject. I "That Place Across the Street From the Sports Arena" still there? Thanks for the kind words about my vacation

Thanks Karsten. We will be in Coppenhagen, Stickholm and Helsinki for only one day each (8 hours) but the ship will spend two day in St. Petersberg. I will do a bit more research on your suggestions.

OMG! Gordon, I'd not thought of 'That Place' in years. My friend and I used to go there every weekend and look for men. Ha. I remember the night some creepy guy sent me a drink, which I pretended to drink but was panicked it might have something weird in it. I went to the restroom and scooted out the door before he noticed I was gone. Never went back. Arraaaghhh! Amazing. We actually probably did pass each other and never knew it.rotfl
