Kapu Cave certainly keeps you busy but I would agree that the 'mystery element' is missing. A couple of puzzles you ask yourself just Where are the clues and there just aren't any - its trial and error. Very much walk about a bit, do chores, switch between characters - which worked quite well - solve the odd puzzle, but not much of the stuff we know and love from the ND series.
I played as senoir detective and felt that it was aimed at a savvy 13 year old, rather than challenging an adventure gamer.

Tigger, I always hate when I have to solve a puzzle with no clues. Quite often I solve them by trial and error, or by logic, only to find I missed a clue.
But I hate it when there are no clues.
I wonder if some of the elements many feel are missing are related at all to the short attention span we keep hearing about re young folks?

I looked over at the Her Interactive forums on Friday and it seemed like many of the hard core fans felt the same way about the game, so I don't think they were going on customer feedback of the younger folk. If that were the case, there would have been a lot of posters saying how much they loved it. Sadly, the series has gone far enough to develope a huge following, so HI can risk slipping some stinkers into the pile and still make a decent profit. Just look at how many posts say, "Yeah, the last two games weren't very good, but I'm still going to buy their games when they come out." I sincerely hope that HI re-evaluates their titles before releasing them and makes a strong effort to get back on track and move the series forward. When you've developed a following for your games like HI has, the fans deserve it.

I wonder if HI has a new management team or new developers--thus, the changes in the games?

I agree. It was pretty short compared to other Nancy Drew games, especially Curse of Blackmoor Manor. Her Interactive really has gone downhill ever since Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon. The culprits are no longer reasonable, and the endings are anything but satisfying.

Hi Humble, Welcome to Gameboomers. Was it the length that disappointed you most?
Hi Casesolver, Glad to meet you. I haven't played this one. I take it Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon was the last one you enjoyed?

Hi! I tested Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon for Her Interactive, so the experience of it was quite different than any other. I didn't like it the first time, but the second time around I did. Perhaps that's part of its magic. My most recent game (before Creature of Kapu Cave) was Danger by Design, which really wasn't all that great, except for the fact that it was set in Paris. Some of the puzzles were fun, but overall, it receives a B- or a C+. I liked it more at first, but the more I think about it, the more it starts to sink. Maybe I've played them too much, but I like the classic ND games better. Her Interactive needs to pull their act back together. Hope I was of some help - I recommend LTBMC, but not Danger by Design or Creature of Kapu Cave.

I just finished Kapu Cave and I have to say I found it much more entertaining than Danger by Design. I found the plot more interesting and the puzzles more fun. I never did work out how to play the Wiki Tiki game but it didn't seem to matter. I really like having the Hardy boys, they inject a note of humor. Liked the fishing and the shell collecting. I would give the game a solid B.

Casesolver, thanks for the information. Hope you like the next one better. DoreenS, glad you enjoyed it. Now I want to play the game just to see what the Wiki Tiki game is. Humble, this doesn't sound like it was your favorite game. Have you played any other ND's?

Hi humble -- welcome to GameBoomers! I've put a spoiler tag over your statement about the Creature. I disagree with you, though. <span class="spoiler_containter"><span class="spoiler_wording">Click Here For A Spoiler</span><span class="spoiler_text">I think there was a creature -- the creature was the fritillated flag beetle.</span></span>

Hi I've played all the Nancy Drew games except Danger by Design. [Only just got that one.] And can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed most of them I think the games have come a long way since that first one, way back when .... although with ups and downs on the journey, as is only to be expected. [And of course what is a "down for one person will be an "up" for another anyway ] I do agree though that of late the chores have increased and the sleuthing has decreased and I think this trend definitely needs to be reversed - but taken as a whole the games have been a very successful and entertaining collection. I just finished Creature of Capu Cave and very much enjoyed it (despite it being rather short) and I look forward to more Nancy Drews. I find them to be a pleasant diversion from the more intense games that are on the market Cheers. Mad
