Hello I recently downloaded a game from Shinyloot it needed a RAR file to open it after a lot of problems I finally did this but it said file missing, and my pc would not go to the start window there was just a blank screen. Shinyloot sorted the game for me by sending it to me in ZIP file this is now okay but pc still not going to start menu, have to turn it on and off a few times to get it working, can anyone help not had this pc long so still getting to know it. You open rar files the same way you open zip files -- only you need a program that recognizes rar files, like 7-zip, WinRAR, or Winzip. Windows itself can only open zip files, and not other types of archive files. 7-zip is free. You can download 7-zip from http://www.7-zip.org/

Did the game actually install, or did it only extract? Did you see the installer running automatically after unzipping it?

Some games don't actually have installs. You just extract them (whether from zip or rar) to where you want them and then run them by double-clicking the game exe. If they don't show up on the Start screen, you can add them manually after locating the game exe.

What do you mean by your PC not going to the Start Menu? Do you mean there is not a game icon on the Start menu like Jenny mentions? Do you mean the game won't go to the start menu for the game? Or are you talking about the PC itself?

Hello thanks for your replies yes game installed and run but said file missing.Iwas then sent game by zip file and that was good.The game is Black Mirror 11, it is running great thanks to ShinyLoot.

.Draclvr thank for your reply the problem now is my pc it comes on with the first 2 screens then nothing I have been switching it on and off to get it going, everything was fine untill this game,is there something in one of these files which could have caused this.

Very strange - it could be so many things. Can you uninstall the game to see if that fixes the problem? That would be the simplest way to find out if the game is the issue.

Some antivirus will delete game exe's or other game files -- or block them from installing in the first place. If the missing file is listed and it's a DirectX file, you'd need to install DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft. Adventure games require DirectX 9.0c, but they don't always include it in the game install. Installing DirectX 9.0c doesn't overwrite the DirectX that comes with Windows 8, but it adds files that DirectX 11 is missing.

I had another thought about the blank screen after booting up... have you changed your desktop theme? Some of the themes have a screensaver called "Blank." It will cause your screen to go blank after a period of time.

Hello everyone thank you all for your help,Jenny100 the first install you told me to do seems to have done the trick everything seems to be working okay now will see how it goes on.Thanks for your help, I will have to get used to this downloading games as it seems to be the way things are going,Im waiting for Broken Sword in December,Iwas okay with my other pc but decided to treat myself to this new one its a lot of ram on it, but still trying to get to grips with it not that clever when it comes to pc.
