That was such a good deal on the game that I bought it but boy oh boy did it ever take a long time to download.

Thanks, Donald, that is a fantastic price! I've been waiting for this one for the longest time, as every version I've seen so far has used some sort of DRM I refuse to accept (DVD - limited activations) or put on my computer (Gamersgate - Starforce).

By the way, to anyone who has purchased it, does this game use Starforce, as the Gamersgate version does? If not, I will snatch it up right away.

Steam is its own form of DRM, Venus.
You need the Steam client installed on your computer in order to download, install, and activate the game. After the game is activated, you can set the Steam client to "offline mode" so you don't have to be online to play the game. You can install on more than one computer, but in each case you have to install the Steam client on the computer and log in in order to install and activate the game.

Personally I don't like Steam and find it intrusive.
But some people find it convenient and enjoy the selection of games.

By the way, the version of StarForce at Gamersgate is not the disc-based StarForce v3 that causes so many problems for people with Vista and later (and earlier Windows also in some cases). It's just a form of online activation similar to all the other brands of online activation.

Jenny, yes I know Steam is its own form of DRM. It isn't my first choice, but I find it to be one of the lesser DRM evils, as activations are not limited, though of course there is always the chance that any purchased games will one day stop working if Steam is no longer around. I always go to GOG first when I have the option, but when a game is very cheap, I can justify a "long term rental" if it's not being offered anywhere else. After all, it will last longer than a meal that would cost me the same price.

And perhaps I am being overly paranoid about StarForce, but I would still prefer not to take any chances if at all possible. I'm actually more worried about it causing problems with my computer than I am about the game itself not working. Yes, I know it will most likely do nothing, but since I'm down to only one good computer (my other computer decided it was done it not too long ago) I would prefer to be cautious.

Sorry for the double post, but I would really like to know the answer to this one. No one knows whether StarForce protection has been added to the Steam version?

They don't list Captain Morgane on any of these lists, so it may not have been reported or may have not been considered important enough a game to test and list.

Note from the above wiki articles that StarForce may be called "ACTControl" now -- no doubt to avoid the bad reputation they got with StarForce v3.

If the possibility of StarForce DRM concerns you, wait until the game is on GOG, DotEMU, ShinyLoot, or another DRM-free site. Just don't assume that StarForce is any worse than any of the others these days. They can all cause problems.

Thanks for your help, Jenny. I suppose I will continue to wait then. It's a shame many sites feel the need to hide the DRM (or even lack thereof) their games use. That's one thing I appreciate about Gamersgate. They list what each game uses (or doesn't use) on their site, and the buyer can decide from there.

Yes, I know other DRM can cause issues, but so far for me they have only been with the games themselves, such as TAGES (Perry Rhodan stopped working after the intro when NVIDIA updated itself. I just play it on the other computer, which uses a different graphics card.) or SecuRom (Everlight wouldn't work at all on my second Windows 7. Luckily it runs fine on Thorsgoat's Windows 8, which is a newer system, go figure.) Granted, I know I've been lucky in that respect, and my first choice is always DRM free if the option is available. I consider STEAM one of the lesser DRM evils, but I will only buy a game from their site if it is relatively cheap (or preferably very cheap ) to begin with.

Anyway, thanks for your help, and I suppose the waiting will just have to continue. Maybe one day, I will get to play this game.

The SecuROM on the Everlight disc is highly sensitive to minor irregularities in CD/DVD drive read speed. It wouldn't work on my XP computer because of this. It's not the version of Windows, it's the DVD drive itself (and possibly a conflict with a DRM from a different game). Even new drives can have minor fluctuations in speed that cause SecuROM DRM to fail to let the game play. TAGES can also have problems, though on my drives it would eventually "take" (after revving up the drive and trying again about 6 times every time I tried to start a TAGES game). I can only guess what the drive's motor suffered with that type of abuse.

I feel the same way as you about Captain Morgane. I'd like to play the game, but I'm not willing to subsidize DRM-infected games. And I can certainly live with not playing it at all.

The great majority of us pay for our games or they wouldn't be made, and one of these days developers and publishers are going to get the message that we are not happy at being treated like crooks.

Jenny, okay that makes sense and explains why Everlight will arbitrarily work on some computers and not others, despite meeting/surpassing system requirements. Regarding TAGES, I had the same problem that you did with Secret Files: Tunguska, but once I updated the drivers, it worked fine. Not sure why it doesn't help with Perry Rhodan, but it always crashes after the intro, even if I try to skip it. I'm just sticking with my other computer for that one. Yes, I'm with you on Captain Morgane. It's a shame, though, as I really loved So Blonde, and I'd been looking forward to playing the prequel.

Traveler, I know, and pirates and going to pirate regardless of DRM. It's a pity that the rest of us are the ones who suffer the consequences.

I actually bought a retail game that used steam. I had to get a steam account to get it to work. I was amazed, nothing on the box at all about having to do any of this.

I'm here because I just switched from playing adventure games on the PSVITA to the ipad. So I'm not hanging around the VITA forums any longer.

I am also a gamer on a PC Netbook which I like too.

So far, the ipad is amazing - a great upgrade for me.

to GameBoomers ipad_lover. We don't focus on ipad or other devices here unless the announcements are combined with PC announcements by the developers but hopefully you'll get some news on upcoming games to watch for.

Currently, I play adventure games on a PC Netbook AND an ipad mini.

The ipad mini, being a new toy is getting lots of play - but adventure games like "The Black Mirror 2" are simply stunning to look at on the PC Netbook.

The game "Captain Morgane and the Golden Turtle" was the very last adventure game released on the Nintendo DS system - and this version of the game was very good.

Since my PS VITA is now retired I was looking for a forum to hang out at - and I don't want to hang out at "The VITA Lounge" too much - to be honest, I'd rather be here on this forum - I've always liked this site for it's walkthroughs.

All you are going to get for age is I started playing adventure games on a $2500 dollar C128 system when each adventure game cost $49.95 each and only had text.

Favorite of this era: "Beyond Zork" - loved this game and Trinity was my first adventure game.
