hello, I am having problems with Sherlock Holmes verses Jack the Ripper. I have owned said game for a while and have indeed played this game to the end once before with no problems that I couldn't work out. I am at the second murder scene that of Annie Chapman and the walkthrough says to click on the blood on the wall beside the body, (it is actually a fence), but there is a splash of blood on the fence. Also you are to click on a splash of blood on the steps behind the poor woman's head, which I can see quite clearly. You do this before anything else as I have found to my peril that if you don't you can't get to the steps as Dr Watson is kneeling in front of them. I have returned to my last saved and arrived at the scene once again I see the splash on the fence but I cannot click on it. A little further the magnifying glass shows up but Holmes only says that it is the dividing fence between the two properties. Although Watson is still standing at this point I still cannot click on the steps splash. Is there something I have missed please?

The problem you describe has been a problem for some other players here as well. What helped them was to adjust their screen resolution. Also, one player here went to Options in this game and changed to the Widescreen option, and that allowed her to click on the needed areas.

Give this a try and let us know what happens. wave

Hi again. Well as far as I can see there is no option to "window" the game I have and not sure how to change resolutions. I can't understand why this happens as I played it without this problem before?

Sorry I see I misread the part about windowing, but I have tried widescreen too and no joy.

Hi Lozza,

If you look at your game's main menu, select Options. Inside options, select Video Settings, and there you'll be able to adjust your resolution. See what choices you have there -- if there is one for Widescreen as Marian suggests. You can always change it back again afterwards, if you prefer.

Edit: We cross-posted. Did you try any of the other resolutions offered? Try a higher resolution than the one you already have.

My game "Options"does not give you actual resolution options. It is fashioned after an old crumpled document and it has lots of stuff but no resolutions.......that I can see. Is there another new Sherlock out anytime soon?

I have the game manual in front of me, it lists all the settings that can be altered. Click on Options at main menu, then select "Video Settings". Then select "Resolution" and choose your game resolution.

Alternatively, you can change your resolution on your computer. From your Start button, go into your Control Panel, select Appearance and Personalisation (assuming you have Windows 7 -- but it will be similar for XP), and you'll see options for adjusting screen resolution. You can switch temporarily. Make a note of your current settings before you change anything. Change to a higher setting, as I suggested in my previous post.

Yes, there's a new Sherlock game out later this year. It's called "Crimes and Punishments". No set release date yet, we're still working on the game. smile

Hello Rushes

Great to hear that a new Sherlock out soon. You say "we" are still working on the game? You mean you are one of the compilers or whatever the word is? I did what you said and all good now and am still happily playing the game with no more, Um interruptions so far. Thank you once again for helping me get on with my game. Now for Dracula4 ha ha.

Yes, I'm helping them with dialogue and in-game text.

Great that you're progressing now! Enjoy the rest of the game. Good luck with Drac. luck

Must be good to be part of it all? I have given up on Sherlock for now as I have arrived at the part where Holmes and Watson are stringing the first two murders together and have reached the conclusion that only Richardson was accurate in his testimony.I have put the times up as stated then moved them to the place they actually should be. All seems sort of okay except that I do not have a "bloody" (Not swearing here)! dagger to place anywhere, what have I missed this time please?

If the dagger hasn't appeared, then you might need to tweak one or more of the times on the timeline. Check that everything is outlined in green -- that way you know it's correctly placed. Holmes will always confirm when one step is complete and you are able to move on to the next.

Keep us posted.

So reassuring to know you are there for me. You can all breathe again now as I have just completed the game Sherlock Holmes verses Jack the Ripper. Thank you all for your help and guidance. Now to uninstall and reinstall Dracula 4! No doubt you or glitches will be hearing from me soon.
