Hi, I have a gaming laptop I had made for me, about four years ago. It has 180gigs, 3DDR, top of the line NVidia game card, blue tooth, and etc. I would like to update to windows 8. Do you think this is feasible? Or for that matter sensible? I do have a great XP tower, and a 98 SE tower, and Window 7 tower. Also have Window 7 laptop, so thought window 8 would be a way to still use the laptop and keep learning and gaming. Charllotte

Drivers might be an issue, but chances are it will be just fine. Run the Upgrade Assistant and see what it says. More info on this page. If you can, upgrade right to Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 8. Then get the 8.1 Upgrade ASAP to continue receiving automatic updates. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-vista-xp-tutorial

Newegg has the OEM version of Windows 8.1 for $100 right now.

I have a gaming laptop I had made for me, about four years ago. It has 180gigs, 3DDR, top of the line NVidia game card, blue tooth, and etc. If it only has 3GB of system memory, and you want to use it for gaming, you might want to check and see if you can add memory. Otherwise there's no advantage to getting a 64bit version of Windows. I don't know if it's possible with your laptop, but see if you can increase the memory to 8 GB.

I wondered what that 3DDR meant. I'll bet you're right...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAMNot sure if Charlotte meant 3GB of DDR memory or DDR3 memory -- maybe both. According to the Wikipedia article, DDR3 memory first came available around 2007.

Yeah, I read it as DDR3, but maybe she meant 3 GB or like you say, maybe both!
