I'm stuck on the patricians murder. According to
all the walkthrus I'm supposed to be able to use
the crowbar to hide in one of the wine barrels at
the cafe to get into the palace. But Lewton says
he has to be a lot more confident that he won't
get caught. I've already been to the palace,
turned into a wolf, and found out that the killer
hid in one of the barrels.

You won't be able to get into the wine barrel until you solve a lot of other stuff.

Have you talked to Sammael about the wine delivery?

Have you leafed through the receipts?

Have you secured a hiding place for Two Knockers?

Did you eavesdrop on the meeting of the True Believers?

Once you have overheard the meeting, things progress in a more linear fashion. Start by talking to Nobby, then back to the Sanctuary to triangulate the locations of the murders using the Octagon.

I've done everything you mention above except of
course using the map at the sanctuary. Lewton
says he knows the locations of 5 murders (he needs
6) and still needs to know more. The patricians
palace is the only place left to go.

Did you sniff around the wine cellar at Sam's club? You need to associate the wine smell from the club with the wine smell at the palace. You also need to talk to Sam about the delivery to the palace and find the receipt for the wine sale. If you have done all three of these things, you should be able to use the crowbar on one of the wine casks in Sam's cellar.

Where did you learn dutch? Or are you original dutch?

And indeed the smell of the wine cellar has to be the same as at the barrels of the palace. A wolf will find out wich one.

Well, I guess you could say I'm royally pissed
off. I don't blame you, BacardiJim, I'm blaming
every stinking walkthru that I looked at trying
to get past this point. THIS is how I finally got
past it. Behind the palace, instead of comparing
the wine barrel scent with the serial killer
scent, I compared the serial killer scent (in my
inventory) with the serial killer trace (magenta) COMING
FROM the wine barrels. This triggered
connection. I tried every which way comparing the
wine barrel scent (red) with the serial killer scent,
both in and out of inventory, but no dice. I even
went back to various saved games in act 3 to see
if that would make a difference, no deal.

i hope you are still reading this thread... Anyways, if you have solved the problem, great! If you haven't, i know how. I recently played the game as well and i met the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as you. The online walkthroughs weren't much help in this specific problem....

What you have to do is to go the Patrician's Palace, Use your Grappling Hook on the Wall. And you will climb up to Leonard. Chit-Chat with him briefly and then go back to the Wine Cellar. Now Use your Crowbar on the Barrels. Bingo!

Yes, I finally solved the problem. Thanks for the
reply. The atmosphere, dialog, and voice acting
simply overpowered any little
frustrations I had with this game. Really, one of
the best I've played.
