I am at the museum and showed Helen the stationary and Finster's invitation. She showed me the heraldic book of shields. I was looking at the book with the invitation inside the book. I tried to look for clues, and move the backwards arrow, but everytime I tried to see more of the pages, I was cut off. I tried to get Helen to show me the stained glass window, but to no avail. I couldn't move the piece of paper out of the book so I could see the page, nor could I turn the page. I always got a backwards arrow! Please help! What did I forget to do? I saved prior to showing Helen the invitation!
Thanks, Linda

Linda:
Have you downloaded and installed the Black Dahlia PATCH? There was an extensive patch to this game, released shortly after the game was released years ago. The patch corrects many, many, many errors in the game (disk swapping, graphics, point-and-clicks, etc.) that were not correctly (the game was never beta tested) before the release of the final version.
If you'd like the patch (and I'm not sure if I this patch will correct your particular problem), please let me know via e-mail and I'd be more than happy to forward it to you.....and with instructions on what to do with the download once you get it (if you want).
Loved this game. I've always said that a neat sequel to this game would be to have Jim Pearson pair up with Al Capone in Alcatraz and escape together; each with his own agenda once on the outside. Pearson would look to clear his name and Capone could be Pearson's first capture once he's cleared his name! What do y'all think?

Hi, I may not get to that disk 6 yet! I can't get Helen to show me the stained glass window! What about disk 6? What kind of surprises am I in for?
Any more answers to my predicament? I have looked through 3 WTs and started over 4 times and have come up with the same thing. Nothing triggers me getting to the stained glass window puzzle.
Thanks, Linda

If you couldn't turn the pages in the book, I don't think you will be able to ask about the window. One or more of the emblems you need to solve the window is not on the page the book opens at. Try again to leaf through the entire book of heraldry and then talk to Helen about the window.

Hi Linda
I looked over my notes and don't see where I had a problem or if I did I didn't write it down. If no one can help - give me a couple of hours and I'll load the game in and play to where you are and see if I can get Helen to talk to me.

I'm not talking about a disc-swapping error. About 1/3 (give or take) of the copies of Black Dahlia produced had bug-riddled copies of Disc 6. Bugs that are incredibly numerous and for which no patch exists. It makes playing the sequence on the train a living nightmare. Continual errors cause black or miasmic screens all over the place, particularly in the conductor's office. Game crashes abound. It becomes necessary to save your game every few steps.
I know in a game community this size, someone has to know what I'm talking about. Yes?

All right folks! I will prepare myself for the saves every so often and I will install the patch that was sent to me! Thanks for the information so I will prepare myself for the future! I finally got Helen to show Jim the stained glass window. I found one WT on the internet that was different from the other 3 that I had. I showed Helen the parchment sheets, case file, and the stationary, and Helen finally talked about her father's progect! I solved the puzzle and got the photo from the Mission, wnet to the Police with the photo and off to the Raven Club to see Louie!
Again thanks for the help!

Glad you got past that, Linda--and just for the record, I didn't have any trouble with disk 6, so maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones too...

Hello LindaH, Don't let the folks go on about disk #6 just yet. There was bit of trouble with the luggage/E-brake and a package pick up at the station. You have a ways too go. Just save and save often. BJ is correct, that if you have the version from heck, you will think, save now or click on, one more frame. Oh No blue/black screen of death. Retry, and move on. Your doing great!!!! Best Wishes, Rick

Thanks, Rckasea. I was starting to wonder if nobody else even knew what I was talking about. We spent an hour trying to wash the disc... make copies of it (it's so bugged it won't even do that... too many write errors) and everything we could think of, sure it was somehow our fault. Or that there was at least something we could do to correct it. At long last we looked at some various forums and walkthroughs and dicovered that literally thousands of people had encountered the identical problem with Disc 6... that it was practically legendary. Not that the relief in knowing that it wasn't our computer's fault made it any more pleasant to struggle through the rest of the disc....

Hello, First, BJ we should let LindaH get to disk #6. I had a problem at the Kingsbury Run. The Torso killer guy would not show up. I pushed with many saves to finish this great game. Once I got used to a couple of clicks and then save. If this puppy was on DVD, it would be a top ten. Let's just help LindaH, if we can, for now! Wash Disk???

Well, I haven't reached Disk 6 yet! I can't wait? I still am on Disk 4 and am having trouble at the pond. I did the planet puzzle and hopped onto the silver planet Thule. Then I was down by a pond and put stones carefully, one by one into the water, watching the video clips of what each person did. I saw where Santini hid some things in his room. The problem is I am through with the placing of the stones and I can't find a way back to where I was in a trance at Cassie's Physic Parlor. Did I forget to do something? The WTs say that when I am through, return from the trance and talk to Cassie. Is there a way out of this dream? Please let me know, as I would appreciate it. I will worry about Disc 6 later on!
Thanks for the encouragement! I will wash all of my Discs!

You can leave the trances by either hitting Esc or by accessing your World Map and clicking "Talk to Cassie."

Thanks BacardiJim, That worked perfectly, hitting the Esc key and going to the World Map, got me out of the trance! On with the game!
It is a very interesting and exciting game! Can't wait until I reach Disc 6!

Hello LindaH, I watched MR.Mom the other day, Tari Garr, wow! Anyhow, there is a great Easter egg at the Santini room. After Mrs. Santini leaves, hold down the shift key and click on the open door. WOW! BJ is the best on this game. I played two years.

Hi, I am on Disk 5 and in the chamber, I retrieved the medallion from the box in the alcove on the floor. I returned to the tunnel and went forward and I believe that I'm in Harold's Room? There are skeletons hanging around and it is all lit up with torches. There are columns around the table and they have runes and symbols on them. I can't find the lock in order to click the medallion on it! Where am I supposed to find this lock and use the artifact on it? Also,I was supposed to click on the runes and Jim will copy them! Am I in the wrong place? I followed two WTs and this was where they said it was!
Please let me know where I am supposed to be and where I would find the lock and use the medallion on it.
Thanks so much for the help in the past! Almost to Disc 6! If you know of a better WT, please let me know!
Linda
Again thanks
Linda

I don't know about any "alcove on the floor." Did you already get the medallion from Winslow when he got sick and abandoned you? Did you look through the vent into the back of the Raven Room? Did you get into that room and open the wardrobe and get the Talisman from it?

Also, I found the Balmoral walkthrough pretty good because it gives you pictures. I don't know which ones you are consulting.

I am on CD #5 am in Austria, was on the steps of the cellar, and found a well. I saw a rope and two levers. I was able to get down into the well and am traveling through the underground system of tunnels. I reached the alcove and found the medallion in the box. Picked it up and have to go to Harold's Room. I am supposed to find a tomb and unlock it with the medallion, but am wondering if I am in that room?
Thanks for the WT that you sent.
If you can help me on this it would be appreciated.
Thanks, Linda

There is a map os the complex in that WT. As you can see, it is basically a straight shot from where you got the artifact to the Herald's room.

Hi, Thanks for the Balmoral WT! It sure was great in giving me directions and the diagrams are very good also! I am traveling through the tunnels underground and have been to the Scribe's Chamber, Harold's Pass, and the room with 6 exits! Almost to Disc #6!
Again thanks to you folks for the encouragement and help!

Hello BJ and Rckasea, I have saved a lot and am enjoying Black Dahlia! It is very exciting and am already on Disc #6. I am in LA and trying to get to Elizabeth Short before Winslow does! Thanks for the Balmoral WT! It has helped me a lotin getting through some of these mazes and other tricks. Thanks for the encouragement and can't wait until I capture or kill Winslow, the scum!
