Hi linda,

It's already available to order at Interact: just type "Dracula" into the search bar, and all the Dracula games will appear, including the one you are looking for, "Dracula 3". wave

It hasn't seemed to make any of the brick and mortar stores out this way yet - we're always last out here frown

Its a Kheops Studios game. I would guess that it is pretty formulaic. Their games have not seemed to improve or evolve much since Echo: Secrets of the Lost Caverns and Return to Mysterious Island.

What is wrong with a Kheops Game? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". They are one of the few I'll buy sight unseen because they are consistently wonderful.

What is wrong is that the games lack character. Consider Secrets of Da Vinci and Cleopatra. Made years after the first two and plays almost alike Return to Mysterious Island. Minor characters with forgettable names and with very small roles in major events? Check. Simple and short storyline with lack of interaction with other characters and lack of dramatic turn of events? Check. Wander around a few locations in an enclosed environment? Check. Combinable inventory and chemistry experiment type of puzzle? Check. Multi-page inventory screen interface? Check. Even the voice over acting also sounds alike. I wish they could be more ambitious and come up with something with greater impact, such as a continuing series involving returning characters, or multi-chapter story telling with switch of characters. I remember putting up a post and asking about the mastermind in Secrets of Da Vinci. The few responses I got were in the line of "I can't remember". See? If I instead ask about Jack Keane, Sherlock Holmes or Joe Danter or any of Jonathan Boakes' games people have so much to share.

Who's Joe Danter?
Seriously. That name rings no bells.

Not so much in Cleopatra and Da Vinci as in Return to Mysterious Island, unfortunately. I think the disassemblable reassemblable multi-item inventory puzzles in Return to Mysterious Island must have taken them more effort to come up with than they were willing to repeat.

But I agree with you about Kheops not producing particularly memorable characters in their games. You remember characters like Kate Walker and April Ryan and Tex Murphy and Gabriel Knight and Grace Nakimura. But what was the name of the main character in Cleopatra?

It is odd that none of us can remember who that mastermind in Secrets of Da Vinci is.

I think the inventory system in the Kheops games is one of the most flexible and complex in the business. Making it even more complex would very likely make it confusing. The puzzles in their games, I find to be unusually creative. I agree that the games don't take you through an exploration of a vast swathe of territory, but they aren't games with a huge budget, so I don't expect to see huge environments.

Benedict -- have you played Voyage (also known as Voyage to the Center of the Moon) by Kheops? It's a game where they took risks and placed the game in a very unusual environment. It's also (as far as I can tell) a game that didn't produce the sales that, for instance, Secrets of Da Vinci did.

If significant innovation is "punished" by lower sales, it's hard to keep on innovating and still stay in business.

Jenny -- Jo Danter is the "hero" grin in Belief & Betrayal.

Sorry can't agree with you Benedict.I have enjoyed all the games, particularly Da Vinci. I feel they are similar to reading a good novel but you have to participate, and don't we normally buy books by certain authors because they offer what we enjoy. Have just finished Dracula 3. I found some of the puzzles completely baffling but it looked great and for once I didn't turn the background music off. I'm with you BrownEyedTigre on this discussion.

The hero of Secrets of Da Vinci is Valdo. And I think the main Character of Cleopatra is Thomas.

Hi smile

I am playing Dracula 3 right now and enjoying it VERY much. An interesting take on the Dracula theme with just the right touch of atmospheric eerieness thumbsup

And I want to say anyway that I have enjoyed practically every Kheops game that I've played.
[Only Voyage was not to my personal taste.]

What is good about their games, in my opinion, is that they will install and play with seldom a hitch, they will have a user friendly interface and an interesting story to follow and they won't cost the earth praise

Absolutely no complaints from me !!!!

Cheers.

I don't play just adventure games alone so perhaps variety and innovation are more important to me than familiar design. To me, Kheops games are way too similar to each other, to the extent that I actually felt bored while playing Cleopatra. It just felt like that they just repeated the same formula from their earlier games and, I am sorry to say, I am tired of this formula. Regardless of this, I find that the scale and puzzles of Cleopatra do not match up to their earlier games, Da Vinci (the Chemistry puzzles here makes more sense and I can relate, not like the flowers and spices thing in Cleopatra) and Return to Mysterious Island (more inventory puzzles that actually justify the multi-page inventory bag). If Cleopatra did not satisfy me, then from an apparently declining standard I don't expect Dracula 3 will satisfy me like some other developer's adventure games.

I wish some developer would publish something in the style of Safecracker (I don't like the remake) and Shivers.

I have nt played Cleopatra but I have played Dracula 3 .For some reason Cleopatra did nt take my interest .Maybe you have to have the right story but with any game you cant please everyone and you shouldnt think that Dracula 3 will be as boring as Cleopatra as they are about 2 differant things .Two totaly differant stories and I always think most of the time it is the story that wants you to go on .Then there is some people who the puzzals are the main thing. Some times I have played a game I thought I would nt like but have been surprised but as a rule it is the story that grabs me and Dracula 3 .Good story and the puzzals was good although some of them were a little hardwall for me .I think most of Kheops games are good .Just that stories like Cleopatra dont grab me . crazy wave
