D*rn you Ragnar! How am I supposed to enjoy another game now? wink

I wouldn't consider myself an adventure gamer, my head hurts just thinking about Myst, and I've mostly played (single/multiplayer) RPGs. But I found Dreamfall in a sale and gave it a shot -- amazing! Never before had I played a game where I liked and identified with my hero(ine) that much, the dialogues were great and the acting too. Naturally I bought the prequel and it was just as good, even better in some parts.

So I thought to myself, this Adventure genre must be filled with games like this and bought dozens of new and old point & click games. But none has appealed to me like Ragnar Törnquist's games. So far, Culpa Innata has been closest - a mature story, but the dialogue didn't live up to it. I've been recommended to play Grim Fandango and Syberia without falling for either (I may not have come far enough in Grim Fandango though - I can hardly solve any puzzle without hints).

I wanna play a game with well written character/story, not too puzzle heavy, professional voice acting... hmm...
Basically I want TLJ3, but it looks like it'll be years until Funcom continues the series, what should I play in the mean time?

(I realize there must have been threads about the subject before, but I just can't find one. Sorry!)

Hi Vagueism. smile

For starters, Sierra's Gabriel Knight series (Sins of the Fathers, The Beast Within, Blood of the Sacred Blood of the Damned) should fit the bill nicely!

For pure fun, I always recommend LucasArts' Sam and Max Hit the Road. To this day, the funniest adventure game I've ever played. grin

Hi Vagueism, welcome to GameBoomers.

I'd recommend Still Life.

The Sherlock Holmes games are also excellent: The Awakening, Nemesis, Case of the Silver Earring.

Thanks Doowopman and Rushes!

The focus of DF/TLJ (in my opinion) was how the main characters' developed and matured in the adventure(s). I'd be happy to be proven wrong but isn't Sherlock Holmes the opposite? I can't even remember Holmes showing emotions even in films or tv-series.

Well, I got to try the demo now! And read up a bit on Still Life and Gabriel Knight. (I didn't like Sam & Max at all, I wanted drama, not comedy.)

Hi Vagueism and welcome to GB

I too loved TLJ and Dreamfall, but then I love most Fantasy. I really enjoyed Keepsake for the same reason. There is some character evolving there, but not as much as in TLJ.

Have you found the the Reviews forum yet? There you'll find reviews by both Staff Reviewers and members. They might give you a feel for the game which might in turn help you in deciding which ones you might like. wave

You've had some great suggestions here. You might also want to take a look at Indigo Prophecy, Daemonica, and The Moment of Silence.

Ah, didn't realize. My apologies. smile

Nickie and Labs have some excellent suggestions. The boomers review section is another good place to look.

Since you're looking for more dramatic story arcs, I'd also suggest Sanitarium (by Dreamforge) and The Dark Eye (by inScape). Both games are very mininal on puzzles and long on characterization. Sanitarium's puzzles imparticular are logical but not overly frustrating.

Vagueism,

I agree with Nickie about Indigo Prophecy, and The Moment of Silence. I didn't like the interface of Indigo, probably because it was a little too much to me and in some parts I needed help, I wouldn't think this would affect you. Anyway, a demo is available and you can check the interface with it, this game is also known as Fahrenheit.

I found Daemonica interesting but I don't remember much of it.

All of them have a story linked to mystery and not too many puzzles.
