If you can't find a copy of Real Myst, I have one that I'm finished with.
It was installed only once, and is in mint condition.
I notice you like changing your avitar. Have you ever used a program called Bryce?
Several years before I found Myst, I bought a copy of Bryce4.
It was a difficult program to learn, but once I got into it I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Fabulous stuff. When I played Riven, I instantly realized that the Myst worlds were built using Bryce, or very similar software. Hundreds of the textures were right out of Bryce.
In Bryce, you can build the most amazing worlds. You can "fly" around in your creation, go underground (or water), and you can use animation. I never did get the hang of the animation thing, but I think I'll go at it again now that I am talking about it.
I did create a sci-fi world about Mining on Titan. It came out really well, and I am very pleased with it. It looks just like a world you might find in Riven or Exile or End of Ages.
I can send you a .jpg or two from it if you want to see.
One of the things I liked most about URU was the ability to snap photos, and save them as .jpgs! I must have 1,500 pictures of my trip through URU saved to disc. I use them as screen savers now and again. The second time I played it, I did so as a photographer.

:christmas:

You'll need to give me a quick 101 on PM.
Is it something you turn on or off?
Sorry, bit new at this chat thing.
I'm guessing PM is private message?
Cheers

Robar, PM is part of the board features. I just sent you one. Look up to the top of the forum for a flashing envelope and click on it.

You can access someones profile by clicking on theor name and then you will see "send a PM" or you can reply to one you have by clicking reply under the PM.

I got my camera in Gahreesen.
Then after I was back in the Relto, I would set out on photo shoots in earlier Books.
They're .jpg files. You can Adobe them. And they print really well on good photo paper!
You can find the pictures you shot stored in a folder called "KIimages".
It is in the game folder. The pictures are written as .jpg
Wow, I got really adicted to taking pictures of what I saw and did in this amazing game.

Hmm. I got that write band thing but it never mentioned how to use it. I do remember using a camera way back when I played before but I don't remember it being in Gahreensen. Anyway, I will be back at my Relto when I start "Path to the Shell"...prolly next week smile Then I'll check out the camera thing smile. Thanks for the reminder!

Hi Gerry
Happy New Year!
I have a copy of REAL MYST. I'll give it to you.
You just pay the shipping.
I offered it to Cissy, but she just bought one.
Cheers

Cissy
When you have the camera it's on your left wrist.
F5 shoots.
I thought it was the just the coolest feature.
In the best of Myst, #6 URU!
Cheers

Gifting, postage, etc. should be discussed via the PM feature or via email. :wink12:

Hi Cissy
Glad to hear you are taking pics in URU.
Have you found where they are kept in the program?
And are you aware that you can print them, change them, etc?
Because they are written in .jpg?

Speaking of pictures, could you tell me about the little picture under your name here. The little car. How do you go about adding this pic?
And how do you make it?
Cheers

Yes, yes and yes LOL! The little picture is a "squished", if you will, of a Chrysler Crossfire. I own one. Found the picture online somewhere quite some time ago. Obviously a special effects pic. Mine is white while this "squished" one is blue smile

You can add an avatar by clicking on My Place > My Profile. You will see how to add your own pic or choose a ready made avatar.

Right now, I am using one of the URU pics I took as my desktop pic. That's the fun part! laugh

I gotta say, the ability to photograph your journey is too cool.
I went back through all the books, when I finally could, in the Relto, later in the game. Exploration stuff. 1,556 pictures later...
Cheers

After I finished URU I was a bit bummed, knowing there were no more Mysts.
It was too fresh in me to go sloggin' through puzzles, etc.
So I started in the finished Relto and went on my photo expedition. (binge)
No saves or puzzles, already done. The completed set of Books have everything you need for complete access to the entire game.
I went through the game and all nooks and crannys as ye gawker/explorer armed with a camera. Turned out to be loads of fun.

Cissy
When you return to a Myst you've already finished, do you play it all the way through again or do you re-visit choice bits for a while? It's what I found myself doing. The Myst panopoly is so vast for a visitor with a key to everywhere.
It is really too bad that URU is the only one from which you could keep yer Kodak moments. Two other Mysts use picture talking, but you can't use the pictures except in the game.
Cheers

I'm new here too - found this board while searching for the next game that would absord me like the Myst's did. I really liked Alida - wonder if there's another one of those in the works?

I got partway through Uru and had some software glitch and haven't gone back in a while. For me, the lazy solo playing is the most fun. I get too nervous when there's time pressures or interaction with other players!

Hi Lavrow and welcome to GameBoomers! welcome

There is a sequel to Alida in the works, from what I understand, but it seems to involve a rather long time horizon. :grin12: I'd love to play the sequel too.

Have you tried the Independent Carol Reed series? Or the RHEM series or Aura: Fate of the Ages and its sequel The Sacred Rings? There are lots of Myst-style games if you want to look back over previous years a bit.

Three recent Myst-style games that I haven't played yet, but that others have enjoyed are Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches, Last Half of Darkness: Beyond the Spirit's Eye (these two have something of a "horror atmosphere" to them) and Outcry. Then there are the Dark Fall games and (if you don't mind third person perspective) Keepsake and The Lost Crown.

And many others that I haven't mentioned! You are at the beginning of plenty of gaming goodness. :grin12:

Thanks so much for the welcome and the suggestions. I'm in Rhem 3 now and enjoying it. Off to see if I can find some of the others...

Hi Lavrow, and welcome.
Some more Myst-like games you might look at are:
Cleopatra, Riddle of the Tomb
Voyage, A Journey Beyond Reality
Mysterious Journey 2 - Chameleon
The first two are by Kheops Studio, and absolutely delightful!
Two games mentioned by Becky, Aura and Sacred Rings, are the most Myst-like I've played.
I thoroughly enjoyed them.
I haven't finished Mysterious Journey yet, but it's been very cool so far.
I wish I was only halfway through URU, but I finished it. Alas...
You can find reviews & walkers for all of these games here at GameBoomers.
Do you use a mouse as your pointing/navigation device?

Gerry and Cissy
Hi, same question. Do you point and navigate with a mouse in Myst?
Cheers

I just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here - I LOVED the first Myst, then didn't get a chance to play any more until Myst 4, which I also liked a lot. The thing I enjoy most, I think, is the way the game respects its players, assumes a degree of cleverness. I think the Myst series is one of the most challenging and rewarding games around ...

(And to Lavrow, if you're looking for games along those lines, with good stories and kind of different, maybe check out Casebook, which is a forensic game I really enjoyed - just google 'casebook the game')

I agree with you smihly very much. Hence I have the original Myste, Real Myst, Myst Masterpiece Edition, Riven, Exile III, Revelations IV, End of Ages V....plus the three URUs. Gee, I'm a fan! LOL. The only thing I didn't get into was Uru Live. Good thing because I would have experienced the disappointment when it closed.

Robat - thanks. I will take a stab at Cleopatra and Voyage. Currently playing Outcry and Rhiannon off and on (thanks Becky). I do use a mouse in all game playing if at all possible. It makes me feel so 21st century.

Thanks,Smihly, I'll check out Casebook too! I did try Still Life which is kind of a forensic mystery, but I think the 3rd person aspect threw me. Guess I have to get out more...

I've often tried to analyze why the Myst games appealed to me and many others didn't. I think I just like their immersive style. I would often just stroll around in them without accomplishing anything, much like real life.
